Dodge was originally founded in Detroit America in 1900 by John and Horace Dodge as the “Dodge Brothers Company” supplying parts to other auto companies. It was until 1914 when Dodge began making its own cars, its first being the ‘Dodge Model 30’. The Dodge brothers both died in 1920 first John Dodge in January from pneumonia later that year Horace died from cirrhosis.
The running of the company was then taken over by Frederick Hayes and later sold by the Dodge widows to the Dillion, Read & Co, in 1928 the company was sold to the Chrysler Corporation. Chrysler Corporation has had several mergers over the years and is now known as the Chrysler Group LLC however Dodge still remains under their ownership.
